Dr. Stewart Gillies is a general dental practitioner who graduated from Glasgow University in 1976. He is married to Penny his wife of forty years and has three daughters. The family have been working with food aid, education, social justice and refugees for over four decades. Their travels have carried them from Guatemala to Bangladesh, Mexico to SE Asia and in the last ten years the crisis in Haiti provoked him to start the Canadian International Dental Foundation. He is a recipient of a Senate 150 Medal and is a fellow of the American College of Dentists.
Dr. Margot Hiltz graduated in 2005 with a degree in Dentistry from Dalhousie University, following her Masters degree in Microbiology. She was born and raised in Nova Scotia but has been residing in St. John’s, Newfoundland since 2005 where she works in a general practice.
Colleen O’Keefe is a partner with Noseworthy Chapman Chartered Professional Accountants. She graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Co-op), from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1994. She became a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1996 and subsequently a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada during 2015. She also serves as a volunteer board member of Iris Kirby House and the Belvedere Orphanage Fund.
David Badcock has decades of experience in the Dental Industry, and was drawn to the need in Haiti. His expertise in logistics, clinic design and execution, made much of our work possible in Haiti. He generously has brought innovative solutions to providing care in the developing world.
Dr. Geoff Smith graduated with a DDS from McGill in 1977, shortly after specialized in Pedodontics and now practices in St John’s Newfoundland. He has been recognized by the Canadian Dental Association for distinguished service for his work at home and abroad. He has travelled as far as Africa and Haiti providing care and education. He is a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Dr. Halah Shahin is a general dentist practicing in Paradise, NL. Halah grew up in Nova Scotia and moved to Newfoundland after graduating from Dalhousie Dental School in 2014. She was delighted to participate in a CIDF mission trip to Haiti in 2017 and is looking forward to taking part in future outreach initiatives with the Foundation.
Adrian worked as a pharmacist for 10 years, before graduating as a general dentist in 1989. He is very much involved as a volunteer with the Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Association and his home community of Kelligrews. His work has extended from his general practice to the Janeway Childrens’ Hospital and he was a Captain with the Military Dental Corps for 5 years. Adrian has participated in two dental missions to Haiti. He is married with two sons and 4 grandchildren.
